5 No Cost Tips to Save Money this Winter
We all benefit when we lead more eco-friendly lifestyles. Using less heating oil and electricity saves us money and helps us to leave behind a lighter carbon footprint. Try these five easy steps to more green...in your wallet and on the planet.
Here’s how in 5 easy steps:
- Before you turn up the heat, grab a sweater or snuggle under a blanket especially when watching TV or reading. We all feel cooler when we are at rest.
- Clean the coils at the back of your refrigerator twice a year (Fall and Spring are ideal times); this will keep your appliance running at its most efficient.
- Unplug unnecessary electronics like phone chargers, printers, coffee machines and portable stereos when not in use. Did you know that 75% of energy used to power home electronics is used when they are turned off? This adds about 10% to your yearly energy bills.
- Make sure your heating vents are not blocked by furniture or window treatments. Consider moving your sofa about 6” away from the wall, it will help air flow into your room and it also looks better from a design standpoint.
- Keep fireplace dampers closed tightly when not in use, heat loves to escape up a chimney.
It’s colder outside and our inside environment should also reflect the seasonal changes, a little cooler in the winter months and a little warmer in the summer months.
Best Wishes for a Happy, Healthy and Prosperous New Year!
